A conference entitled 'Future internet and society: a complex systems perspective' will take place from 2 to 7 October 2010 in Acquafredda di Maratea, Italy.

This conference will bring together information and communication technology (ICT) experts, social scientists and professionals in the area of complex systems. They will assess the latest developments, identify new trends and look to the future in the domains of society and the future internet.

The complexity of the current internet structure and its future can only be understood by using a multi-disciplinary approach. Such an approach should include the science of complex systems, and in particular complex network theory. It should also rely on the social sciences and humanities to explain the underpinnings of the internet at a societal and economic level.

Topics that will be covered in the conference include:
- internet topology and modelling,
- complex techno-social networks,
- modelling of collective social behaviour,
- social and human dynamics,
- spreading and epidemics in techno-social systems,
- virtual social systems,
- co-evolution of internet and society,
- internet as a socio-economical system,
- mobile social networks,
- internet enabled applications and business,
- future internet as a techno-social system.

This conference is organised by the European Science Foundation (ESF) in partnership with European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST).For further information, please visit:
