Blue Seminar - Socio-economic and institutional dimensions in water management: New date
The traditional objective of water management is simply to match availability and needs, but this is both limited and insufficient if a sustainable development goal is sought. The achievement of this goal requires the analysis of the policy formulation process, its actors, context and dynamic.
Approaching the policy formulation process directly will provide a better insight into the social, economic and technological factors supporting and conditioning water policies and the dynamics of policy formulation. The analysis of the socio-economic and institutional dimensions of water resources management, planning and policy formulation is considered an essential area of research to improve the ability of European societies to cope with water problems of increasing relevance.
Water resources policies are always a complex combination of mechanisms of different types. The comparative analysis of different approaches used in Europe and their effectiveness, taking into account the historical background of each Member State, is a key issue for the definition and implementation of water policies at EC level.
