EDCTP launches €118 million investment
Each year, EDCTP launches calls for proposals to achieve the objectives of its programme, i.e. development of new or improved interventions to address poverty-related infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa while also supporting the development of African (clinical) research capacity, including the capacity to review and regulate clinical research conducted in African populations. Almost all EDCTP-funded projects integrate clinical research and capacity development. However, the various funding instruments have distinctive goals. Moreover, each year several calls are targeted to address specific health research priorities. These priorities are detailed in the EDCTP Strategic Research Agenda. Clinical research – Research and Innovation actions (RIA). These calls are used to fund large scale clinical trials. In 2018, RIA calls are: - Advances in product development for effective prevention, treatment and management of co-infections and co-morbidities (http://www.edctp.org/call/advances-in-product-development-for-effective-prevention-treatment-and-management-of-co-infections-and-co-morbidities/(öffnet in neuem Fenster)) - Diagnostic tools for poverty-related diseases (http://www.edctp.org/call/diagnostic-tools-for-poverty-related-diseases/(öffnet in neuem Fenster)) - Strategic action for overcoming drug resistance in malaria (http://www.edctp.org/call/strategic-action-for-overcoming-drug-resistance-in-malaria/(öffnet in neuem Fenster)) - Strategic action for the comparison, selection and development of malaria vaccine candidates (http://www.edctp.org/call/strategic-action-for-the-comparison-selection-and-development-of-malaria-vaccine-candidates/(öffnet in neuem Fenster)) - Vaccines for diarrhoeal diseases or lower respiratory tract infections (http://www.edctp.org/call/vaccines-for-diarrhoeal-diseases-or-lower-respiratory-tract-infections/(öffnet in neuem Fenster)) Capacity development – Coordination and support actions (CSA). These calls aim to support accompanying measures such as support for research collaboration, standardisation, coordination or maximising impact of research for health systems. In 2018, CSA calls are: - Capacity development to facilitate delivery and uptake of new or improved medical interventions in African health systems (http://www.edctp.org/call/capacity-development-to-facilitate-delivery-and-uptake-of-new-or-improved-medical-interventions-in-african-health-systems/(öffnet in neuem Fenster)) - Ethics and regulatory capacities (http://www.edctp.org/call/ethics-and-regulatory-capacities/(öffnet in neuem Fenster)) Individual capacity development – Training and mobility actions (TMA). These calls are primarily used to support the career development of individual African researchers. - Preparatory Fellowships – Joint call with the Africa Research Excellence Fund (AREF) (http://www.edctp.org/call/preparatory-fellowships-joint-call-with-the-africa-research-excellence-fund/(öffnet in neuem Fenster)) - EDCTP Clinical Research and Product Development Fellowships (http://www.edctp.org/call/edctp-clinical-research-and-product-development-fellowships/(öffnet in neuem Fenster)) - Career Development Fellowships (http://www.edctp.org/call/career-development-fellowships-4/(öffnet in neuem Fenster)) - Senior Fellowships (http://www.edctp.org/call/senior-fellowships-4/(öffnet in neuem Fenster)) Please visit www.edctp.org to view the calls and for more information on how to apply.
