Project description
Innovative technologies to improve rail reliability
Cost-efficient and reliable long-lasting trains are essential for the success of any railway transport system. The EU-funded Gearbodies project will work to promote the development of lighter and more energy efficient and comfortable passenger trains. Specifically, it will improve the efficiency of rolling stock maintenance and extend overhaul periods by developing high-performance and long-lifetime components for running gear. Improved maintenance processes will be advanced by developing innovative non-destructive testing technologies to advance inspection processes for lightweight carbody cells. Gearbodies will design and model several elastomer-metal running gear components, explore innovative technologies to develop low life cycle cost bearings and will produce a mobile prototype to inspect composite carbody shell efficiently.
