A secure and reusable Artificial Intelligence platform for Edge computing in beyond 5G Networks

Periodic Reporting for period 2 - AIatEDGE (A secure and reusable Artificial Intelligence platform for Edge computing in beyond 5G Networks)

Berichtszeitraum: 2022-07-01 bis 2023-12-31

Our vision is that Artificial Intelligent Systems are irreversibly set on the evolutionary path of every future vertical as well as of every object and service we humans will interact with in the near future. This trend is motivated by the need to support elastic and demanding real-world use cases such as automated and cooperative mobility, e-health, gaming, entertainment, etc. For this reason, in AI@EDGE we leveraged the concept of reusable, secure, and trustworthy AI for network automation to achieve an EU-wide impact on industry-relevant aspects of the in multi-stakeholders’ environments.
AI@EDGE approach to answer the above-mentioned challenges has two lines of action. First, we designed, prototyped, and validated a network and service automation platform capable of supporting flexible and programmable pipelines for the creation, utilization, and adaptation of secure and privacy-aware AI/ML models. Second, we used this network and service automation platform to orchestrate AI-enabled end-to-end applications. Here, we introduced the novel concept of Artificial Intelligence Functions (AIFs) to refer to the AI-enabled end-to-end applications sub-components that can be deployed across the AI@EDGE platform.
The AI@EDGE project aims to advance the integration of Artificial Intelligent Systems into various sectors, envisioning their widespread application across verticals such as automated mobility, e-health, gaming, entertainment, and more. The project focuses on creating a reusable, secure, and trustworthy AI framework for network automation, with a particular emphasis on addressing the needs of multi-stakeholder environments.
Deliverable D2.4 of the AI@EDGE project is a comprehensive examination that assesses the project's technical Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and explores its socio-economic and techno-economic impacts. The document is strategically structured to seamlessly integrate these critical aspects, providing a detailed understanding of the multifaceted impact of the AI@EDGE project.
Deliverable D2.4 sets the stage for the exploration of KPIs and broader impacts (including social), offering a clear overview and easing readers into the subsequent detailed sections. A techno-economic analysis balancing technical advancements with economic implications is followed by an analysis of the socio-economic impact of the project. This part if particularly focused on exploring broader societal implications, especially the project’s contribution to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Throughout the project, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a recurring theme, reflecting the commitment to integrating global sustainability efforts into technological advancements. Aligning with these goals underscores dedication not only to technological excellence but also to making a positive impact on society and the environment.
