Protecting the Democratic Information Space in Europe

Project description

Tools to protect democracy from populism

The rise of populist movements pits people against a so-called elite which includes the judiciary, mainstream media, politicians, experts and academics. The ERC-funded PRODEMINFO project will seek to gain a better understanding of people’s perception of truth amidst fake news and conspiracy theories. It will identify the scale and subject matter of misinformation. It will also combine controlled behavioural and cognitive experimentation with big data analysis of social media, simulation modelling of behaviour online and text modelling of large corpora. The findings will result in interventions that can be used to expose inaccurate information and raise awareness of the facts.
