Novel Biobased Low-carbon Infrastructure Solutions

Project description

Ageing transport infrastructure to go green

The maintenance and upgrading of ageing transport infrastructure facilities requires innovative, low-carbon, sustainable solutions to meet future needs and evolving environmental loads arising from climate change. Opportunities arise from advances in understanding and harnessing new and underexplored nature-based processes and geotechnical engineering practices. To meet demands of industry and EU priorities for low carbon nature-based solutions and bioeconomy, the EU-funded NOBILIS project will explore new biobased processes in situ. The UK railway will be used as a case study to test novel techniques and evaluate them in terms of environmental impact and whole life costs.
