Project description
Immunological science-based collaboration
The EU-funded EURIdoc project is introducing an ambitious new interdisciplinary doctoral programme in the Upper Rhine region, offering 28 doctoral positions to young scientists from all over the world. The project’s partner institutions are based in Switzerland, Germany and France, and its scientific orientation is based on the immunological foci that exist in Basel, Freiburg, Karlsruhe and Strasbourg. Strongly connected to the Upper Rhine region, the project will contribute to knowledge transfer across disciplines, sectors and borders. It involves 50 excellent researchers who are recognised for their contribution to health and for converting discoveries into tangible applications. The project is focusing on immunological problems of our time, such as SARS-CoV-2, and plans to develop new therapies.
Objective
EURIdoc is a Eucor - The European Campus joint doctoral programme in the field of immunology. Doctoral students are selected through a transparent, merit-based and international recruitment process and hired by the Eucor members University of Basel (Switzerland), University of Freiburg (Germany), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany), University of Strasbourg (France) and the Freiburg University Clinic (Germany). The programme is strongly connected to the regional, tri-national ecosystem of the Upper Rhine Region and contributes to knowledge transfer across disciplines, sectors and borders. EURIdoc unites 50 researchers recognised for their excellence in immunology research, their engagement in health and in translating discoveries to concrete applications. EURIdoc benefits from the expertise of Eucor’s doctoral and graduate schools for recruitment and training. It innovates in the supervision of early stage researchers by associating supervisors with cosupervisors and educational mentors form different research institutions and/or sectors. It has access to state-of-the-art technical platforms. It can rely on a well-functioning and dynamic community of immunology researchers, lectures and clinicians. Training sessions for doctoral candidates are organised to provide disciplinary, interdisciplinary, intercultural and intersectorial training. The industrial sector is represented by small medium enterprises and big pharma companies that have committed to provide mentorships, seminars and secondments. Dissemination and outreach strategies include publications in high impact scientific journals, multi-media public communication, participation in citizen science and in patient associations. EURIdoc provides a framework for excellence in research and doctoral training with high level and international standards through trans-national, intersectorial collaborations, exchange and networks across Europe.
