Policy Brief: Transitions in trade and international cooperation to meet biodiversity challenges with focus on beef and soybean value chains

Focusing on beef and soybean value chains this Policy Brief will provide suggestions/recommendations on innovative, just and transitional policies that recognize telecoupling in governance systems between the EU and Brazil (T4.4).

Quantification of climate change and biodiversity implications of alternative pathways for sustainable fishery and fishmeal production

This scientific report will guide corporate and governmental policy-making pathways for sustainable fish extraction and production (T3.3.2).

Report synthesizing lessons learned from pathways analysis

IIASA will coordinate contributions from partners in a report synthesizing lessons learned from the quantitative pathway analysis (T5.2). This will form a key source of recommendations for D6.4 (a joint deliverable with WP6).

Effective and socially desirable policy-technology mixes with transformative potential for biodiversity conservation

This Scientific Report will provide stakeholder and policy actor suggestions/recommendations on empirically valid policy-technology mixes with transformative potential for biodiversity conservation (T3.1 and T3.2.1).

Initial toolbox design including the selection and implementation of environmental and socio-economic SDG indicator

The practical framework of the initial model toolbox will include the selection of a suite of indicators to address biodiversity, ecosystem services, climate change, and socio-economic consequences of transformative change (T2.1 and T2.2).

Report on co-produced transformative change pathways for biodiversity, update

The report drafted in D1.1 at month 9 will be updated to allow a better reporting and monitoring of activities.

Policy Brief: Transitioning national and sub-national governance to address the food/biomass and climate-mitigation nexus

The Policy Brief will provide stakeholder and policy actor suggestions/recommendations on innovative, just and transitional governance arrangements at the national and sub-national scales with a focus on the food/biomass and climate-mitigation nexus, namely governance of food consumption and production with special attention to dietary policy in the U.K. and Germany (T4.3).

Report on co-produced transformative change pathways for biodiversity

The report will describe key elements (T1.1-3) and their combination (T1.4) into a set of co-produced new, just and viable pathways for biodiversity through transformative change in the EU food and biomass nexus between climate action, biodiversity conservation and restoration, production, trade, consumption, and human behavior. A draft of pathways will be delivered at month 9, contributing to the first key milestone of the project (M2). The deliverable will be updated at month 24 with an overview of downscaled targets (T1.3.2) and the final version of the pathways (T1.4.2).

Quantification of climate change and biodiversity implications of EU plant-forward meal scenarios

This scientific report will inform corporate policymakers how to sustainably shift towards plant-forward food production (T3.3.2).

Policy Brief: Transitioning EU governance to address the food/biomass and climate-mitigation nexus

The Policy Brief will provide stakeholder and policy actor suggestions/recommendations on innovative, just and transitional EC governance (interventions/policies/initiatives) with a focus on convergence of food/biomass and climate change mitigation policies (T4.2).

Database of downscaled targets

The database will contain different sets of downscaled actionable targets that (i) are specific at a level of geographies and sectors that is useful for the project’s case studies and involved stakeholder groups; (ii) are aligned with different overall biodiversity pathways developed in the project; (iii) follow co-produced downscaling principles that represent different worldviews and equity considerations.
