ERA Chair for Accelerated Synthetic Chemistry Technologies at Palacký University Olomouc

Project description

Increasing excellence in synthetic chemistry

The Czech Advanced Technology and Research Institute (CATRIN) of Palacký University Olomouc (UP) aims to achieve the status of a pocket of excellence and an advanced research trend-setter in synthetic chemistry. To do so, it needs to increase its excellence and strengthen its position in European Research Area (ERA). The EU-funded ACCELERATOR project brings together two outstanding research leaders, the world-renowned professor of chemistry, inventor, and innovator Alexander Dömling as an ERA chair of the Synthetic Chemistry Group and CATRIN. ACCELERATOR will increase UP's research excellence, strengthen the Innovation & Knowledge Transfer Ecosystem in the Olomouc region and secure the long-term sustainability of the synthetic chemistry research group.

Objective

To unite a powerful potential of two outstanding research leaders and thus capitalize on their mutual collaboration for reaching the impact none of them would achieve on their own. This is the aim of the ACCELERATOR project. It brings together (1) the world-renowned Professor of Chemistry, inventor and innovator Alexander Dmling as an ERA chair of the Synthetic Group and (2) the Czech Advanced Technology and Research Institute (CATRIN) of Palack University Olomouc (UP), merging three excellent research centres into a unique scientific ecosystem.

Better links between R&I actors across European Research Area (ERA) and beyond is a must if Europe is to maximize excellence from across the continent. UP has been pursuing this goal for a long time now. To become a pocket of excellence and an advanced research trend-setter, UP needs to yet (i) enhance the excellence and strengthen its position in ERA; (ii) streamline the R&I commercialization system and establish new industrial partnerships and (iii) foster brain circulation to attract outstanding scientists.

So far unconquered issue of automation in synthetic chemistry, innovative compound-based whole-plant-screening technologies for securing food supply, novel antibacterials addressing the challenge of increasing antimicrobial resistance and breakthrough materials for batteries and supercapacitors enabling energy storage from renewable sources are just few challenges awaiting to be solved by the ACCELERATOR. The project that has all prerequisites to rise the ERA Chair's expected impact to its fullness.

Project will lead to (1) the increase of the UP's research excellence; (2) institutional changes at UP through strengthening the Innovation & Knowledge Transfer Ecosystem in Olomouc region; (3) improved capability of UP to successfully compete in international research funding; (4) securing the long-term sustainability of the Synthetic chemistry research group after the completion of the project.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
