The goal of the DiMAT Project is the creation of Open Digital Tools with a set of advanced technologies for offering SMEs and Mid-Caps an affordable (in terms of cost, implementation and usability) full modelling, simulation and optimisation system in each stage of the material value chain (design, processing and manufacturing) with data analysis services and visualisation techniques to facilitate more efficient design space exploration via experimentation, thereby reducing physical testing and improving quality, sustainability, effectiveness, and competitiveness of materials.
The DiMAT Project will be particularly focused on addressing problems and business cases of SMEs, which cannot generally afford to use costly modelling, simulation and optimisation systems, providing open-source tools based on open standards like MODA and CHADA and ontologies like EMMO, with fully documented external programming interfaces in order to be interoperable with Enterprise Applications (ERP, MES, APS, etc.).
The DiMAT Suites will be offered to SMEs and Mid-Caps according to a cloud Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) paradigm, implementing a cost-effective way for companies to exploit materials knowledge acquisition, modelling, simulation and optimisation functionalities without the need of high initial investments in infrastructure setup and maintenance and without the need to rely on specific IT skills to develop or customise the required functionality, thereby enduring the transition of SMEs and Mid-Caps towards industrial digitalisation.
The DiMAT Toolkits will be adapted to SMEs and Mid-Caps characteristics, providing advanced knowledge-based tools to improve the material design, processing, manufacturing processes contributing to increase the capability of a better and faster reaction to market changes, boosting the companies’ competitiveness. DiMAT will implement a knowledge base to interlink the simulation-based twin technologies with data-driven approaches, using open-source implementation of AI algorithms in open-source modellers and simulators.
The DiMAT project will demonstrate its results in four pilot use cases that represent four relevant material production scenarios. These scenarios will be explored and fully implemented and evaluated. The case studies will summarize the context and situations prior to and following the implementation of DiMAT Solutions, along with an estimate of the enhancements in the KPIs. The pilots will be implemented under real-world conditions to show the applicability and impact of the project and its results. This will help to validate that the technology readiness level of the tools implemented are at least at level 6.
