Bacterial Methionine Oxidation Repair and Aging

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - MOR-AGE (Bacterial Methionine Oxidation Repair and Aging)

Período documentado: 2023-05-01 hasta 2025-04-30

Cells are constantly exposed to oxidative stress, which can damage essential molecules and affect their survival. Among the molecules targeted, proteins are particularly vulnerable. The MOR-AGE project aimed to better understand how bacteria repair oxidative damage in proteins, and how this process influences their capacity to cope with stress and age over time.
During the project, advanced microscopy and genetic tools were developed to observe in real time how bacteria respond to oxidative stress. These tools made it possible to measure how protein repair mechanisms are activated and how they vary from one cell to another. The project also explored how these processes affect bacterial growth and survival under challenging conditions.
The project produced new tools and experimental approaches to study protein oxidation and its physiological consequences at the single-cell level. These results go beyond the current state of the art by offering new ways to study how cells adapt to their environment and manage internal damage.
