Context : Interregional collaboration plays a crucial role in addressing European policy demands related to the twin transition and in advocating for the cosmetics industry to be recognized as a ‘key industry’ within the European Union. Currently, while some components of the value chain are acknowledged as key industries, the cosmetics sector is not yet included among the 14 designated industrial ecosystems.
The challenges of creating a stronger Europe and navigating digital, green, and societal transitions are pressing concerns for the entire cosmetics ecosystem. These must be tackled at the European level through robust interregional collaboration, which can drive innovation within the sector. To enhance competitiveness and fully leverage the potential of the EU cosmetics value chain, it is vital to further structure and strengthen the European cosmetics ecosystem by engaging and connecting all relevant stakeholders.
Secondly, efforts within the European cosmetics ecosystem focus on making careers in the sector more appealing to young people, thereby contributing to societal transformation. A significant challenge at the European level is the shortage of qualified workers across the entire value chain. Raising awareness among young people about the expertise, skills, and opportunities in the cosmetics industry is essential to overcoming this gap.
Another critical issue concerns consumers, who, despite being central to the industry as end users, often lack knowledge about its cultural, technical, scientific, and regulatory dimensions. Educating consumers about these aspects will promote "Made in Europe" consumption and foster greater appreciation for the industry’s value.
Interregional collaboration provides a platform to bridge diverse environments, share experiences, and develop common approaches. It enables the planning and execution of investment projects that involve industry players while incorporating the latest advances in scientific research.
The European cosmetics sector shows significant growth potential, but it must still address the challenges posed by green, digital, and societal transitions. Through initiatives like ACCT4Cosmetics, the aim is to maintain Europe’s leadership position by proactively addressing these challenges and fostering innovation across the industry.
Overall Objectives : ACTT4Cosmetics aims to create a more efficient, open, inclusive, and interconnected innovation ecosystem in the cosmetics field across Europe. By leveraging existing ecosystems and involving new stakeholders, the project seeks to implement digital and ecological transitions and drive sustainable growth. The consortium will inform, train, and foster collaborations through capacity-building actions and funding opportunities. ACTT4Cosmetics has three main objectives:
• Innovation deployment through digital transition
• Reinforcing green transition to combat climate change
• Raising consumer awareness and engagement in the cosmetics industry.
The project includes 8 partners and 2 associated partners from 6 countries, working together with complementary skills. An implementation plan with 7 work packages and coordinated communication efforts will maximize the project's impact, addressing fundamental barriers and promoting a digital, green, and societal transition throughout Europe.
