Ethics Requirements (1)

OEI - H - Requirement No. 1

Appointment of an Ethics AdvisorThe proposal presents ethics issues in humans, personal data, non-EU countries and AI. Overall, the applicants are aware of the ethics issues and use appropriate methods to address these issues. More specifically, the proposed project undertakes research involving human participants (surveys using questionnaires and/or interviews, field experiments in decision-making in the context of economic, social individual and group choices). Behavioral interference such as nudge interference increase the necessity of strong ethical awareness on not to manipulate and to secure the integrity and interest of the individual involved. Positively, the work is conducted with attention to the guidance for Ethics in Social Science and Humanities provided by the European Commission and including local ethics committee approval together with informed consent of the data subjects. The suggested deployment of AI techniques is undertaken with attention to the robustness and compliance. However, considering the above together with the participation and data transfer with non-EU countries, it is recommended to appoint an Ethics Advisor. The project activities should demonstrate adherence to the AI Act and the HLEG guidelines as well.The Ethics Advisor must be appointed at M2, previous consultation of the P.O. and his report must be submitted at M18 (D.7.2), and two updates of this report must be submitted following the project reporting periods (M30 and M42). The expertise of the Ethics Advisor must include AI technologies.
