Merging an interconnected innovation ecosystem of deep-tech and critical technologies to boost circularity through resilient transformation in the EU

Project description

Empowering deep-tech innovation for Industry 5.0

Small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups focused on critical and deep technologies are crucial to enhancing value chains in digital innovation and clean technologies. The EU-funded MOSAIC project will support them in transitioning to Industry 5.0 and foster an innovation ecosystem. The project will establish an excellence hub for deep-tech innovation, promoting knowledge exchange and technology transfer among partners. It involves local, regional, and national stakeholders to improve coordination and create better synergies between EU funds that promote resilient innovation and a circular economy. The project will summarise ecosystem actions and guide future developments, including stakeholder mapping, selecting four deep-tech companies, and analysing EIC Accelerator-certified entities applying for the Plug-in scheme.

Objective

MOSAIC will look for the interaction with talented SMEs and start-ups working on critical technologies and deep tech, to help reaching Industry 5.0 while creating an innovation ecosystem. These companies will enrich the value chains in digital and deep-tech innovation, clean technologies, and net-zero technologies. Like this, MOSAIC will create an excellence hub established in different major pillars of deep-tech innovation, where the partners bring and exchange knowledge and technology transfer.

Involving local, regional and national stakeholders MOSAIC will call for better coordination at all levels for better synergies between EU funds and programs that aim to stimulate resilient innovation and circularity. Collaborations between the public sector, universities, businesses and society will be acknowledged as critical to innovation and to increase the competitiveness of regions' different development levels to bring solutions tailored to regional and local needs.

As a result, MOSAIC will provide a Design Options Paper showing the outcomes of the execution of the ecosystem actions providing guidance to future developments of the innovation ecosystems, including the compilation of conclusions from mapping & integration of MOSAIC stakeholders and regions for the generation of the hub-network, selection of 4 deep-tech and critical technology enterprises based on the potential for the ecosystem and the analysis of the agencies and agents that count on EIC Accelerator certification to apply to the Plug-in scheme.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
