Objective
WASTE2WORTH addresses the critical challenge of post-harvest food losses by developing accessible solutions that enable farmers, cooperatives and SMEs to valorise agricultural residues and surplus crops into high-value food and non-food products. Farmers and cooperatives are pivotal actors for tackling food losses and enabling circular value chains, yet they currently lack practical, scalable tools to stabilise and valorise their own residues. WASTE2WORTH targets this gap by enabling primary producers to act as operators and co-owners of post-harvest and valorisation solutions, rather than as passive providers of low-value biomass. The project delivers an Integrated On-Farm Valorisation Toolbox comprising modular post-harvest technologies, scalable processing methods and decision-support tools that transform underutilised biomass from tomatoes, carrots and spinach into valuable ingredients rich in carotenoids, polyphenols and fibres. A comprehensive open-access digital biomass dossier provides systematic compositional characterisation and valorisation potential for stakeholders across European regions. WASTE2WORTH combines advanced biomass mapping with intelligent sorting, modular storage, preservation protocols optimised for bioactive retention, and UV-based sanitation and boosting technologies. The project develops decentralised extraction and conversion processes, including mobile biorefinery platforms, enabling on-farm transformation of stabilised feedstocks into market-ready ingredients for food, cosmetics, biomaterials, biofertilisers and biostimulants. A multiactor approach ensures solutions are co-designed with farmers and cooperatives, technically robust and practically implementable. Cascade funding supports at least 20 demonstration pilots across European regions, advancing technologies from TRL 3 to 7. Environmental and social life cycle assessments, co-created business models and open-access training materials facilitate replication and uptake across EU

Net EU financial contribution. The sum of money that the participant receives, deducted by the EU contribution to its linked third party. It considers the distribution of the EU financial contribution between direct beneficiaries of the project and other types of participants, like third-party participants.
