BRIDGING LIFE-CYCLE EVALUATION AND SAFE SOLUTIONS TOWARDS SEAMLESS CRITERIA FOR PROACTIVE DECISION-MAKING

Obiettivo

BLESS aims to enable the widespread adoption of Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) tools for chemicals, materials, and their resulting products, fully lined up with the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) framework and European strategies. By addressing persistent barriers to LCA uptake, particularly among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), BLESS will deliver a user-friendly, cost-effective digital tool that evaluates the entire life cycle of products, from raw material extraction to end-of-life disposal. The BLESS platform will integrate advanced digital technologies, including predictive models and artificial intelligence, to support LCA-based decision-making from early design phases through industrial implementation. By bridging current gaps in databases, methods and tools, and harmonizing new insights with established standards, BLESS will provide a robust foundation for consistent sustainability assessments across European value chains. A multidisciplinary consortium, encompassing universities, research centers, large industry, and SMEs, will ensure a holistic approach covering environmental, social, and economic dimensions. Through targeted training and knowledge transfer activities, as well as the establishment of a living lab, BLESS will actively engage businesses, raising awareness of life cycle thinking and enabling the seamless integration of SSbD practices into corporate strategies. Ultimately, BLESS will foster broad-scale adoption of LCA in the chemical and materials sectors, strengthening regulatory alignment, accelerating innovation, and empowering European industry to lead in safe, sustainable, and circular solutions.
