AI-Driven Mixed Reality Navigation to Transform Surgical Precision and Accessibility

Obiettivo

ARGUS AI tackles a critical inequality in European neurosurgery: advanced neuronavigation systems can improve tumour resection rates and reduce complications, but their cost (up to ~€400k per unit), infrastructure needs and training overhead mean that many hospitals in Widening countries still operate without image-guided navigation. This undermines the EU Beating Cancer Plan and digital-health objectives, where access to high-quality oncological care should not depend on postcode or hospital budget.

Our objective is to evolve ARGUS AI from a TRL-4 prototype towards a robust TRL-6 mixed-reality guidance platform and an investment-ready deep-tech company originating from a Widening country. ARGUS AI replaces bulky hardware with a software-only solution running on affordable XR headsets. Using AI-assisted MRI/CT-to-patient anchoring, it overlays reconstructed 3D CT/MRI scan and highlighted tumour and risk structures directly into the surgeon’s field of view, reducing cognitive load and enabling neuronavigation at a fraction (>80% reduction) of today’s cost.

The project will: (1) industrialise and harden the technology (data pipeline, backend, Mixed Reality client, automatic anchoring, segmentation, security and regulatory readiness) and demonstrate performance on phantoms and in relevant simulated neurosurgical environments; (2) analyse potential clinical and health-economic impact using retrospective data, phantom studies, and design a protocol for future clinical trials; (3) develop a defensible business model, IP and MDR/CE roadmap, and an EU-wide go-to-market plan, with emphasis on scalable deployment in Widening countries; and (4) strengthen the team’s commercial, regulatory and investment capacity and build a pipeline of early adopters, partners and investors.
