Final Activity Report Summary - MICROFLUIDIC DEVICES (Hybrid microfluidic devices for complex chemical analysis)
This project explored and characterised new miniaturised analytical methods. Separations, both as a sample preparation and as the main analytical technique employed in the analysis, using a variety of mechanisms (electroseparation, chromatographic partitioning) were employed. Novel modern approaches to using hybrid microfluidic devices for miniaturised analysis were developed. The Team became well known for its pioneering work in utilising the 21st century solid state light sources technology, namely light emitting diodes (LEDs) and laser diodes (LDs), offering unprecedented advantages for miniaturised analysis. Solid state light sources such as LEDs and LDs were utilised for optical detection and for photopolymerisation to create monolithic stationary phases derivatised with necessary special chemistries were employed for techniques utilising a chromatographic stationary phase.
