Metabolomics and Oncology: Transfer of European Technology

Final Activity Report Summary - MOTET (Metabolomics and oncology: Transfer of European technology)

The MOTET project was designed to transfer technology from the established nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) facility in Frankfurt to a newly launched facility in Birmingham.

The development of NMR methods was targeted towards the development of metabolomics as a new field in the context of NMR spectroscopy. This included different aspects of NMR technology, from processing methods to dynamic nuclear polarisation. The overarching theme was set by applications in cancer biology, specifically metabolomics studies in acute myeloid leucaemia cell lines. NMR metabolomics was able to identify mechanisms of drugs in such cells, highlighting the role of reactive oxygen species for differentiation and apoptosis.
