Obiettivo
The fast development of broadband access and wireless solutions for the home is now opening up major market opportunities in most areas of the world. The home is becoming increasingly more connected, opening the way for a set of new and attractive products and services, the ones of "the Connected home". Europe is at the forefront in this field, in particular thanks to the FP6 projects funded by DG Infso. It is important that EU organisations develop S&T cooperation projects on an international scale, in order to contribute fully to the emergence of worldwide standards, to take advantage of the developments occurring in other parts of the world and to familiarise themselves with the environments of the markets they themselves will be positioned on in the near future. These cooperation efforts must be multiple but should target more particularly Asia and especially China where the market prospects in the medium to long term are the most attractive. In this environment, the BIP2 Project aims to provide support for IST international cooperation in the Connected home field.
More precisely, the BIP2 Project will:
- organize, in cooperation with The China-EU S&T Cooperation Promotion Office (CECO), a full partner of the BIP2 Project, a second edition of the "Euro-China Workshop on Home Networks and Platforms" in order to strengthen and develop cooperation links with Chinese organisations.
- maintain the information and support services, targeting European organisations, offered by the www.IST-BIP.org portal.
The BIP2 Project is expected to have a major impact, as regards the international visibility of the IST projects in the domain (and of the IST Programme), the international contacts that the Project can allow EU organisations to make and, finally, the role that can be played, on the international stage, by EU organisations in the field of the Connected home.
