Obiettivo
The main objective of the RAINBOW project is to gather communities with experiences in animal and non-animal data and predictions from computer-based modelling to achieve a better risk assessment (RA) of chemical compounds, integrating their experiences through a workshop. RAINBOW is multidisciplinary and multisectorial. Regulators, scientists and problem holders, such as chemical industry will participate. Target is 60 participants, but registration will be free to reach a wider participation. 9 fellowships will be given to young researchers from EU and outside. The workshop discussion will be useful to cut barriers between scientific and societal areas. Today research is fragmented. In many cases the different activities on animal and non-animal studies and computer-based methods have been done considering these areas as competitive fields. Participants will discuss criteria for standardisation of methods and models. RAINBOW will address an architecture to compare and integrate individual studies. Many co-ordinators of EC projects will participate to the workshop, so that their results will be disseminated, providing a high resonance to the European research. This will also avoid repetition of studies, making optimal use of public money and identifying synergisms and complementarities. Their EC projects will be a way to exploit recommendations from the workshop. The verifiable results will be the workshop, the internet site, a list of software and databases, the report with recommendations for use of data from animal and non-animal studies and computer-based methods. Presentations at the workshop will be collected and published papers in a scientific journal. Another result will be a questionnaire from participants and stakeholders, addressing needs for RA, and characteristics for their acceptability by end-users in real world applications.
