Foam technology to revolutionise packaging industry
The packaging industry needs innovative solutions to reduce the use of plastics. The EU-funded FlexFoam project proposes a new material called Paptic Foam. It combines the sustainability of paper, the versatility of plastics, and the haptics of textiles, making it a promising alternative to traditional plastic-based packaging materials. Paptic Foam is produced by Paptic using foam technology and renewable wood fibres. This material is over 50 % more resource efficient than traditional paper and offers higher product performance. It is also renewable, recyclable and reusable, making it a sustainable alternative to plastics. Paptic Foam has a wide range of applications, including dry and frozen food packaging, electronics, hygienic products, toys and more.
Objective
Paptic Foam is a new material for flexible packaging, combining the sustainability of paper, versatility of plastics and haptics of textiles. Our material is compatible with the production processes of the respective flexible packaging value chain thus can be easily introduced in processing. The unique haptic properties also enable consumers to differentiate the products, improving efficiency of sustainability communication of end-users/brand owners.
Paptic already has developed and piloted the foam technology to produce renewable, recyclable and reusable wood-fibre based material that is over 50% more resource efficient compared to paper. Paptic’s patented material technology has vast application opportunities in various flexible packaging market segments like dry and frozen food packaging, electronics, hygienic products, toys, etc. Our technology enables resource efficient manufacturing and higher product performance, enabling position of most sustainable alternative to plastics.
