Industrial Biotechnology is one of the Key Enabling Technologies identified by the Europe Union. Harnessing the power of microbes for biomanufacturing is one of the most promising approaches to providing a sustainable alternative to a fossil fuel- and animal farming-based economy. However, fermentation scale-up remains a massive challenge to the commercialization of bioprocesses. At its core, fermentation scale-up involves bringing a biological process from a test-tube scale to a commercial scale of tens to hundreds of cubic meters. During scale-up, production output often fails to scale, undermining commercial potential and preventing the sector from reaching its potential.

Enduro has developed a game-changing synthetic biology plugin – Enduro Sense – to bridge the scale-up gap and enable scalable and cheaper biomanufacturing. Our technology works to ensure that bioprocess output remains high throughout the scale-up process.

After successful development and demonstration, we are ready to perform large scale demonstrations with industrial partners. In the EU EIC Accelerator funded BioScale project, the aim is to showcase Enduro’s technology at commercial scale.

Enduro has generated and screened many new commercially relevant strain candidates with the Enduro Sense technology. Several of the screened candidates show a very promising performance profile that will be further developed in the remaining part of the BioScale project.
With the successful trajectory that Enduro’s technology is on, Enduro is poised to deliver a major impact to the biomanufacturing industry. The impact is driven by Enduro Sense’ positive effect on bioprocesses at scale and it will be delivered through multiple mechanisms centered around:
1) Increasing bioprocess output with the same input.
2) Expediting commercial bioprocess development.
3) Enabling commercially viable process with difficult-to-express products.
In the months to come, larger scale demonstrations will further qualify the power of Enduro’s technology.
