RITE is a radically simple, low cost, business-to-business PC-based environment for supply chain management of very small to medium-sized enterprises in the independent music industry that rely on creative and collaborative ways of working. RITE integrates communication, shared workspace and database tools into a single, robust, efficient, secure, compatible and high quality business environment without loss of user individuality or over-extending company resources.
The independent music industry is characterized as being fragmented with people in small businesses working informally and fanatically across different disciplines and national boundaries. RITE offers the opportunity of better co-ordinating people within and across businesses thus helping to bring multimedia product to market, quickly and more efficiently. Initial applications are aimed at networked information management for joint marketing, multimedia promotion, presentation and distribution. These activities will be supported by services for specification, training and building multimedia environments. A small scale system will be adopted by a user partner in its European business operations, and by another as a 'virtual world-wide' media company. Although on-line general retailing is not part of the project, some on-line services are under consideration.
