Transatlantic Networks since World War II

Final Activity Report Summary - TRANSATLANTIC (Transatlantic Networks since World War II)

From a political perspective, the transatlantic relationship between north America and western Europe during the Cold War is one of the most complex and, at times, ambiguous cases of international relations. Exploring non-governmental transatlantic networks since the Second World War offered a good counterpoint to the diplomatic study of this relationship, which usually concentrated on the role of states. This project highlighted the role of transnational networks, particularly in the field of security expertise, and showed that the United States philanthropic foundations were crucial actors in developing a transnational strategic studies' community during the Cold War, which itself nurtured the specificity of the transatlantic link.
