The Mediterranean Environmental Emergency Action Centre (MED ALERT) is an Action Centre supplying decision support solutions and related technology deriving from a whole range of research in the engineering decisions support system (EDSS) field currently available to regions to deal with emergencies such as forest fires and oil spills. It contains detailed information on the effectiveness of these solutions, following pilot studies in 4 Mediterranean regions. MED ALERT provides solution packages to deal with specific emergencies, together with support in how to implement and utilize them. Its unique range of experience and know-how enables those dealing with such emergencies to benefit both from state-of-the-art solutions, approaches and technologies and also the experience and know-how of others who have been involved in coping with similar problems across the Mediterranean. It is also well-placed to serve as a dissemination point for relevant European Union (EU) policies and standards, and the extent to which solutions are able to promote the observance of them. Targeted at any organization involved in dealing with emergencies, but also at developers and providers of appropriate solutions, MED ALERT is an essential bridge between sources of solutions for emergencies and those whose responsibility it is to cope with them.
