Ziel
The main objective of the proposed ICIMS-NOE is to pool together and enhance the human and material resources of academic institutions and industries active in the fields of manufacturing and automation, aiming at a structured scheme that will :
- Permit efficient co-ordination of research and development
- Define new research directions and provide leadership in their exploration
- Efficiently disseminate the new knowledge
- Foster wide and effective training of professionals and students
In order to accomplish these overall objectives the ICIMS-NOE will include the following activities:
- Co-ordinate ICIMS related research projects between academic and industrial partners of the NOE.
- Establish an infrastructure for the dissemination of information and RTD results of ICIMS related research projects between the ICIMS-NOE nodes and interested external institutions I industries I associations.
- Co-ordinate the exchange of scientific and technical data provided by the ICIMS partners to each other and not only.
- Co-ordinate ICIMS related training and educational programs in Europe (short term and long term).
- Create a roadmap for the competitiveness of European industries in ICIMS research topics.
The proposed Network of Excellence ICIMS-NOE is a continuation of the existing ESPRIT NOE 9251.
Within the ICIMS-NOE, academic or research members will obtain valuable feedback and guidance from industry on their ongoing research activities, while industry will be given access to a reservoir of competence and expertise.
The ICIMS-NOE has a well formulated managerial structure and is composed of a Steering Committee (SC), a Scientific Board (SB), a Network Co-ordinator (NECO), a Network Manager (NEMA), an Industrial Advisory Board (IAR) and, a number of Technical and Operational Committees. All are co-operating in a harmonised way to meet the long term technological objectives of the Network.
Specific ICIMS-NOE activities include: Organisation of an Advanced Summer Institute (ASI) every summer, State of the Art Surveys (SOTAS) which are updated every year, meetings of the SC every six months, meetings of the SB and the IAB once a year during ASI, one or two workshops every year organised by each individual TC, creation of databases and information flow on topics of the ICIMS, promotion of renewable resources, publication of a Newsletter every three months, development of new university-industry Link Centers, formation of better Pan European Educational programs, collaboration with other NOEs and co-operation with six User' s Group Requirements Projects (UGRPs).
