Obiettivo This Project will investigate theoretical problems that appear in cold-trapped gases of fermionic atoms in the statistical regime of high degeneracy. I aim to establish the phase diagram for mixtures of two types of fermionic atoms at zero temperature as a function of the densities and masses of both species. In particular I will concentrate on the different types of superfluid phase that can arise in this context.I will begin by comparing the various proposed ground states which exist in the literature and identify which ones are favourable in which regions of parameters for the case of a uniform system (in the absence of an external potential). I will also investigate the possibility of phase separation between these phases. Next I will study the situation in the presence of an external trapping potential (either magnetic or optical) which confines the gas of atoms. This potential induces a spatial variation of the density profile of the two types of atom and can create spatially separated regions of superfluid phases with different order parameters. Finally I will study and propose methods of detecting these phases in future experiments.
