Ziel
The study of the possible associations of psychosocial factors as job strain, depression, social support and stress, with the development, treatment and prognosis of cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a promising research field. Job strain and depression are highly prevalent conditions, and CVD remains to be the first cause of death in most countries around the world. Nevertheless, only a few cardiovascular studies have been able to study this topic in a low cardiovascular risk country as Spain.
We will be able to study the role of psychosocial factors with CVD outcomes within two large cardiovascular cohort studies of workers. The different populations of these studies in terms of geographical location, sex distribution, age range, and different occupations, offer a great opportunity for the study of well defined psychosocial factors and their role in CVD etiology, and progression.
We will use well established and already validated questionnaires to measure job strain, depression, social support and stress.
The knowledge produced on the possible associations between common psychosocial factors as job strain and depression with the development and progression of CVD will offer excellent opportunities for preventive cardiovascular interventions not only in Spain but in other countries of the European Union with similar cardiovascular risk.
