Obiettivo
Organization of radiometric ground truth campaigns for:
- calibration check of airborne and space sensors
- validation of atmospheric corrections and classification algorithms basic study of high resolution data aimed at some specific applications of future space sensors (MERIS, SeaWIFS and MODIS)
Progress to end 1990
The analysis of field data acquired during the EISAC campaign on both land (Freiburg) and sea (North Adriatic) test sites was concluded : these ground data, measured at the time of overflight, revealed to be essential for the adjustment of the uncorrect radiometric calibration of the airborne GER spectroradiometer.
According to the previous experience the JRC field radiometry team was required to participate, in July 1990, to a flight campaign with the CASI in the Freiburg test site: the results will give guidance in the definition of the specifications for a Joint European flight of an imager spectroradiometer in 1991.
Continuous activity is going on for the investigation of high spectral resolution capability for:
- measurement of chlorophyll, TSS and yellow substance in shallow water (Sacca di Goro)
- vegetation stress (LASFLEUR measuring campaign) while preparatory action in the frame of land degradation/soil erosion activity has started with the use of the newly arrived GER IRIS field spectroradiometer for measurements of reflectance spectra up to 2.5 m.
An article on the comparison of airborne scanner data, sea truth and atmospheric measurement has been recently published: G. Zibordi, G. Maracci, P. Schlittenhardt "Ocean Colour Analysis in coastal water by airborne sensors", Int.J.Remote Sensing, 1990, vol 11, n5, 705-726.
A letter on a simple technique for the measurement of the atmospheric optical thickness by G. Maracci and G. Zibordi has been submitted and accepted from Int. J. Remote Sensing.
Detailed description of work foreseen in 1991 (expected results)
Planning, organization and participation to a field radiometric campaign in the frame of a joint European campaign on imaging spectrometry;
Continuation of laboratory and field measurements for the comparison of different remote sensing techniques as reflectance analysis and exited fluorescence on:
- some selected plants in waterstressed and unstressed conditions
- the water column with different content of chlorophyll, TSS and yellow substance.
Participation to the land degradation/soil erosion activity with field (Ardeche) and laboratory analysis spectroscometry of rocks and soils in the spectral range 0.4-2.5 m.
Short description of evolution of work in 1992
Setting up of operative methodologies for the checking and validation of both airborne and space sensors.
Contribute to the construction of an integrated signature catalogue of marine and terrestrial ecosystem components.
Contribution to development of algorithms, mixed spectral signature modelling and band selection for the best use of data from future space sensors (MERIS, SeaWIFS, MODIS).
Development and improvement of instruments for sea and ground truth.
