Final Report Summary - SOLAR BUILD (Integration of Solar technologies into Buildings in Mediterranean Communities)
The SOLARBUILD project, as its full title states, was about 'research on integration of solar technologies into buildings in Mediterranean countries'. The project was structured into seven work packages (WPs), as follows:
WP1: Project coordination
All the necessary contacts with the European Commission (EC) for the formation of the final technical and financial annexes of the contract were made. The pre-financing was transferred to the partners after the reception from the EC. A project organisation committee from CRES, MEDENER and UMAR representatives was formulated for the better communication between all and especially UMAR members in the participating countries which are not project partners.
WP2: Expert working groups
This work package included the establishment of working groups in each country comprising mainly the energy agency-MEDENER member in each country and the relevant architects associations. In most of the cases, it was finally achieved to have at least one meeting between the energy centre and the respective UMAR member and then to have telephone or e-mail contacts for the market analysis needs and also the representation to the workshops.
WP3: Market analysis
The guidelines were prepared for the market analysis report and were distributed to every partner.
WP4: Workshop in Morocco
The first workshop was realised in Marrakech, Morocco, on 25 October 2007. The event announcement was prepared and mailed to the target group, as well as other promotional material which was distributed during the workshop (folder, presentations, etc). The workshop has been attended by about 50 persons.
WP5: Workshop in Greece
The next workshop was organised in Athens, Greece, on 12-13 December 2007 by UMAR (local representative) and CRES. The event took place at the National Research Centre and was attended by more than 150 people. In this second project event, the rest participating countries, Jordan, Palestine, Greece, Spain and Lebanon presented their market studies. Besides, an overview of the market studies presented in Morocco closed the session.
WP6: Electronic guide and web
The guide included the situation in each country, relevant trends, development in Europe, good practices, tackling hurdles and recommendations-next steps. Where there was not enough input from local resources, CRES searched info through the internet or results of other European projects. A website was developed for project dissemination needs. The address is http://www.cres.gr/solarbuild. All public documents produced during the project implementation are on the website: the workshop announcements, relative press releases, the event presentations, general project description, the partners, and of course the e-guide.

A list of follow up activities are planned to be drawn up in order to maintain a permanent dialogue between MEDENER and UMAR members. Besides, main results such as the e-guide will be disseminated through the project web and the web sites of each partner. Finally, press releases and articles to newspapers are planned in order to disseminate project results.
The main issue was the difficulty to the contacts between the members of the consortium (not all of them). It was supposed that it was due to the very low budget of the partners, the difficulty in getting input during the implementation of the project as well as during the reporting period. This resulted to the submission of an incomplete interim report and greater efforts of some partners in contacts and in searching info from other sources to prepare the project deliverables.
