Randomness ad Irreversibility in Physics

Final Report Summary - RANPHYS (Randomness ad Irreversibility in Physics)

The main objective of this project has been to study the various form of randomness, in particular, with respect to the natural capacities of physical and natural systems to "produce" randomness.

To this end, we have concentrated on the quantum mechanical features of complementarity and contextuality.

The main result obtained is a formal proof for the indeterminism in quantum mechanics, the first attempt to go beyond mere postulation and experimental verification. Our results continue to be cited by the leading authors in quantum computing.

The most important application of our strong version of the Kochen-Specker theorem was the blueprint for the first certified by value-indefiniteness quantum random generator (QRG). This QRG is provable better than software-generated randomness.
