Obiettivo
The CERION Working Group will co-ordinate the research of 17 European and 8 Canadian nodes, actively participating in research on nano-electronics, nano-optics and the technology of advanced nano-structures.
The research activities will be oriented towards the following results:
- development of nano-optic and micro-structured photonic devices, e.g. quantum dot lasers, modulators, amplifiers, non-linear semiconductor waveguides for wavelength shifting;
- development of nano-electronic transport devices, e.g. quantum dot resonant tunnelling diodes and metrological applications based on single electron effects;
- general theoretical and experimental characterisation of electrical and optical transport properties of nano-structures and mesoscopic systems and the identification of their operational limits;
- investigations of novel systems, e.g. hybrid semiconductor and magnetic systems.
Results will be published in recognised scientific journals on a regular basis and the scientific parts of the annual progress report will be directly communicated to the European and Canadian microelectronics industry.
CERION will provide financial support for the following activities:
- scientific visits made by European researchers to their Canadian colleagues
- attendance at the CERION workshops by the European partners
- organisation of the CERION workshops:
- local organisation (only if performed by a European partner)
- coverage of travel and living expenses incurred by invited speakers attending a CERION workshop
A wider target group consists of European and Canadian universities, research institutes, microelectronics companies and European programmes related to nano-technology (incl. The Phantoms Network of Excellence, MEL-ARI consortia etc.)
