Obiettivo
This project will establish a system for collecting and recycling discarded equipment from the fishing and fish farming industry in Europe. We will accomplish this by establishing a network of cooperating entities from the waste owners through the transporters and the dismantling sites to the recycler and other end users. The project is a joint venture between three parties, Norsk Fiskeriretur who has taken the initiative to this project and by that making their Norwegian business idea European, Egersund Net who is a fish farming net producer in Lithuania and the Estonian plastic recycler Dago Plast. These three parties have been cooperating for some time already.
Studies estimate that around 180 000 tons of plastic equipment waste from fish farming and fisheries occurs each year in Europe alone. 64 000 tons ends up at sea and only a small part of the rest are being recycled. One of the big environmental challenges facing the world today is the immense garbage patches of plastic floating around in the worlds oceans. The size of the plastic soups in the Pacific Ocean alone is estimated to be twice the size of continental USA, and it is growing rapidly. The problems related to plastics are immense and our project aims to be part of the solution.
