Obiettivo
Biotechnology in Europe suffers from the European paradox: there are many hot spots of excellent research, but this new knowledge is not yet consistently being harnessed to create innovative products and services to enable European companies to take the le ad in what will become a key to future competitiveness, nor to allow European citizens to benefit from the quality of life advances that biotech will bring with it.
The objective of TRANSBIO is to demonstrate to policy makers how EU companies and research institutions who perceive insurmountable barriers to participating in the global market can be successfully supported and encouraged to take their knowledge to the USA and Canada, attract development partners into their consortium and develop their ideas and innovations further in the world's most advanced and competitive markets for biotech products and services. To attract partners into joint development agreements in USA and Canada we recognise that we will have to provide an outstanding portfolio of offers.
Therefore, we have designed the TRANSBIO project in such a way that only the very best and most promising joint European technology offers are included. We are also putting a high priority on working with teams trying to exploit knowledge created i n the EC's Framework Programmes to extract more value from the years of investment that have been made in this sector. Only by selecting, refining and actively promoting ideas that are taken up by North American stakeholders will we learn how to overcome t he legal, ethical and cultural differences which prevent successful transnational technology Transfer (TTT). Only from a group of success cases will EU policy makers and TT professionals learn how to do TTT in this complex and competitive environment.
