Researcher's Gallery: Where Science meets Culture and Citizens

Objective

The Researcher's Gallery: Where Science meets Culture and Citizens” (“SciCultureCitizens” ) event is a triade that defends the ideals of Sustainability, History and Tradition through a bold combination of Science and Culture. And what better way to bring RN 2012 Edition to a place where art, science and technology meet and blend, which is Guimarães in Portugal, the 2012 European Capital of Culture (ECoC). In 2012, Guimarães will be hosting a major gathering of creators and creations: music, cinema, photography, architecture, theatre and dance. The 2012 event in Guimarães will celebrate the relation between science, humanities, and the fine arts. With an impressive selection of scientific, musical, artistic and cinematic events, the “SciCultureCitizens” event will allow the public at large to explore how science outlines culture and how theatre, music and art engage with science. This event will bring researchers and research institutions closer to the public, enhancing their role in the mainstream of society and combining activities organized that will focus on the public at large, with researchers being actively involved and directly in contact with the public. The purpose of this initiative is to prove that scientists are “ordinary” people and like us share the same concerns and passions. The programme of activities includes a balanced combination of science-linked activities and culturally festive ones intended to celebrate the fun of science, performing shows, magic experiences, cinematographic experiences and of course, The Researcher´s Gallery: exciting experiments, workshops, exhibitions and hands-on activities. The RN passed from an unknown event to a nationally recognized event in Portugal, especially due to the success achieved with the last editions coordinated by INOVA+. Benefiting from its privileged know-how, its experienced team and a relevant group of key cooperating bodies, INOVA+ is ideally situated to organise the 2012 RN edition in Portugal.
