Obiettivo
The aim of this project is to perform state-of-the-art simulations of star formation triggered by expanding nebulae (HII Regions, Stellar-Wind Bubbles and Supernova Remnants).
The objectives are
- to determine the circumstances under which the mechanism works (e.g. threshold effects), and hence the conditions for sequentially self-propagating star formation;
- to predict the properties of the resulting stellar populations (initial mass function, kinematics, clustering patterns, and binary statistics);
- to discover the gas dynamical explanations for the distinctive morphological features seen in regions where nebulae interact with molecular clouds (pillars of creation, bright-rimmed clouds, evaporating gaseous globules); and
- to explore the consequences of sequential self-propagation for star formation in interacting and forming galaxies.
