This project aims on a first complete review of the work done in the last ten years on social aspect in rural electrification. It is the main objective to make this knowledge applicable for technicians working in European Companies in the dissemination of renewable energy technology world-wide. It is the aim to support European Companies and PV users world-wide on the way to a sustainable operation of autonomous energy supply systems and a sustainable growth of the rural electrification market for energy supply to support basic needs as well as economic development. Our main objectives are: - to summarise all experience that is collected about social aspects in rural electrification with renewable energy technologies in the last decade - to hand over the practical knowledge to European Companies, that are working in rural electrification in individual training courses in English, Spanish, French and German - to disseminate the best practice of social interventions in rural electrification.

The partners of the project supported by external experts on social facilitation in renewable energy technology introduction and sustainable use will collect experiences from socio-technical and socio-economic from research projects and the requirements of the company resulting from their daily experience in the field. On this basis training course seminars for the technicians working in the field will be developed within the project. In individually designed training courses the practical part will be applied, evaluated and later on disseminated via CD-ROMs, Internet and a brochure that can be used on site later on.
The following working steps will be included: Elaboration of Best Practice: - collection and structuring of the work already done - development of social training units - internet forum and 1st CD-ROM with best practice Application in Training: - collection of demands of the European companies - work out of individual training courses - realisation and evaluation of training courses Dissemination of Best Practice: - international workshop on 'social interventions in rural electrification with renewable energy systems mainly PV ' one decade of experiences' at the next European PV conference in 2003 - Documentation and Evaluation of the workshop and upgrade of training course materials - Dissemination of Brochure and 2nd CD-ROM.
- Elaboration of didactic material and concepts to offer a training unit for technical professionals
- Individually prepared training for the companies that are partners in the proposed action and others that are interested with additional financing; these companies and their customers will directly benefit, the others will be provided with the material worked out - the preparation, organisation and realisation of a workshop on the coming European PV-Conference in 2003 that calls for international participation and world wide dissemination
- Prepare the contents, materials and results of the training courses and the international workshop in a CD-ROM for public use
- Elaborate a brochure
- Best practice: The last decade of social research in Photovoltaics
- During this time we will create an informative network between social and other professionals via newsgroups and mailing-lists to continue the exchange and co-operation after the proposed actions
- The documentation of the realised work will be on a web site and on a CD-ROM.
