Objective
The objective of the Localization Tools Development project is to enhance the quality of all aspects of localization process and ensure the availability of localization services in all languages.
The tasks within this project include modelling of the localization projects, documenting the value chain of the projects, designing a computer based project management system and creating a reliable file transfer system to ensure a quick and safe system for managing file transfer tasks.
Desktop publishing, printing and logistics issues are also covered within the project. The system to be created will enable customers to have access to up-to-date online information, thus giving them more data and control over the overall costs and status of localization in any project, country or region at any given time.
There is a demand for multilingual coordination of localisation projects in addition to better linguistic quality, consistency and reduction of costs. Local SMEs can satisfy this demand by forming a consortium and using an efficient information system which will be both designed and developed by the companies. The importance of this type of service is, that it will reduce the cost of translation work and give the customers faster and more reliable results. Potential customers include all vendors of microcomputer, workstation and imbedded software, producers of electronic equipment, manufactures of machinery and power tools, and durable consumer goods of technical nature.
European localisation companies will jointly develop tools for translation and local adaption of software, related documentation, embedded software, and technical end user documentation. Tools will include versatile project management software, efficient file transfer possibilities between partners, and between consortium and its customers, linguistic databases all based on relational databases and Internet related technologies.
Participating companies have established a joint company in Ireland to provide marketing, project coordination and quality assurance services for all the parties.
The consortium consists of eight companies very experienced in the field of software, technical localisation and software development. Each company has an established position in their domestic localization market, and has their own business and customer base. All the multi-lingual translation projects are channelled into the consortium.
