Co-ordination action on human rights violations

Obiettivo

The Co-ordination Action on Human Rights Violation (CAHRV) has selected interpersonal violence as its main theme. Violence against women is recognized as a serious challenge to democracy and social cohesion; this awareness now needs to be extended to t he victimisation of men, children, elders or socially vulnerable groups. Each act of violence may generate a cascade of further problems.Undeterred victimization detracts from other basic rights: for example, sexual abuse is a hidden cause of poor healt h, domestic intimidation restricts access to social participation, bullying negates the right to education. The field of interpersonal violence typifies fragmentation in addressing human rights violations. Each type of violation and setting has been see n as a distinct concern, research and actions look either at child abuse or at racist youth violence, at domestic violence or at trafficking. Theoretical and practical links between the different aspects of violence have been neglected. CAHRV will devel op methods to account for and overcome fragmentation in research, policy and practice. It will build on networks for women, children and men established under Frameworks IV and V, under the DAPHNE and STOP programs and on the work of experts for the C ouncil of Europe, and will identify and co-operate with sites of excellence.CAHRV opens up new perspectives by integrating research across gender and generational divisions, connecting these with aspects of citizenship and governance, including security, civic participation, knowledge based society and work. There are four sub-networks: identifying and profiling victims, understanding men's violence and gendered practices, addressing human rights violations,protective environmental factors. Each examine s when policies and interventions are effective and what context variables need to be considered for transfer.
