Stimuli sensitive polymers for nano- and microdevices

Ziel

The project combines training of experienced researchers and transfer of knowledge based upon the research program aimed at synthesis, investigations and applications of micro- and nanostructured materials obtained from stimuli sensitive polymers. The inte rdisciplinary research program is divided into individual tasks. The synthetic polymer chemistry tasks encompass the modern methods of living/controlled polymerisation of heterocyclic and vinyl monomers to polymers exhibiting stimuli sensitive behaviour. T he synthesis will tailor the polymers to optimise their reaction towards stimuli, their morphology, their solution behaviour and their reactivity. The properties in solution and the organisation (characterisation task - micellisation and aggregation) will be studied using modern analytical tools. Gels (materials task) will be obtained and their behaviour under environmental (temperature, pH, ion strength etc) stimuli studied. Therefore synthesis will be optimised to obtain materials best suited for possible applications. Recruited experienced researchers will transfer their knowledge to the researchers at host's lab while assuming co-responsibility for significant parts of the research program, leading groups carrying out the research and teaching them the t echniques of experimental work. More experienced researchers are expected to perform consulting, lecturing and teaching in their fields, not assuming direct responsibility for the individual research tasks. Researchers of the host institution will be train ed at partner organisations to learn special experimental techniques, carry out defined experiments or measurements using modern techniques, not available at the host lab and to acquire knowledge about methods and techniques to be transferred to the host i nstitution. As a result, the quality of the host institution will be improved to an extent that will increase and strengthen its leading role in the field of the project at regional and European scale.
