Obiettivo
The aim of the GAPFILL Project is to contribute to one of the priorities of the IST Programme: reinforcing Europe's position in IST on the international scene. The Project also contributes to reach another objective of the IST Programme: getting a high level of participation of organisations from third countries in FP6 IST Projects. To support these objectives, the GAPFILL Project is focusing on four Asian countries: Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Taiwan. They have been selected for the prospects of their IT markets, the quality of their IT communities, their low level of participation in the 1st IST Call of the 6th FP, the determination of their authorities to develop S&T cooperation with Europe in the IT field, and because of the small number of initiatives that the IST programme has so far developed in these countries. The GAPFILL Project is short in time and intense in terms of activities. An information day is first organised in Europe to promote the initiative among the EU ICT community. A two-day event is then organised in each of the four targeted countries. Emerging cooperation Projects are then given assistance by a GAPFILL help-desk. All along the project lifetime, marketing and promotion activities provide the support the other activities require: press conferences to be organised in the four selected countries, a specific web site, project documentation to be widely disseminated, etc. The GAPFILL Project partners are Sigma, Project coordinator, the Taiwanese National Science Council, the Singaporean Agency for Science, Technology & Research, the Malaysian Mimos Berhad and the Thai National Science and Technology Development Agency. Important, concrete results are expected: the effective increased participation of Asian organisations in coming IST Calls, the wider dissemination of the IST programme's objectives and results in the four targeted countries, the greater visibility of the European ICT community in this region of the world, etc.
