European Industrial Doctorate on Solvent Emission Control: A new approach towards recycling diluted waste gases into bio-energy

Obiettivo

There is a consensus today that biotechnology has the potential to transform global economies into bio-based economies. However, continued support of biologically-based Clean Technology is necessary if the European Union aims to be the most dynamic region of the world in promoting sustainable pollution control methods to improve quality of life to its residents.

TrainonSEC will offer advanced training to four early stage researchers (ESRs) to carry out their PhDs in the area of Clean Technology. The scientific goal of this program is to find environmentally friendly solutions for industrial processes using solvents by reducing waste emissions while decreasing energy demand through the production and use of bio-energy. A novel biotechnology, anaerobic bioscrubbing, will be developed for this purpose. ESRs will be exposed to a broad range of disciplines (chemical and mechanical engineering, environmental science, microbiology, automation) while being an active part of a highly innovative programme that aims to transform an environmental concern (solvent emissions control) into a bio-energy production process. The fellows will additionally receive training in a complete set of transferable skills that will help them to excel in real-life situations in innovative and competitive business environments, thus enhancing their employability.

The Universitat de València and the SME PAS Solutions’ international leadership in biological solvent emission control is complemented in this project by the participation of two associated partners, Altacel Transparant (to include a problem-owner perspective) and Ekwadraat (for scalability of research), thus providing a unique environment in which young researchers will be able to develop the capacity to face research problems from a multidisciplinary and intersector approach.
