The predictive three-dimensional vascular growth models enabled by the parent ERC starting grant are translated to improve the outcome of complex pediatric cardiovascular surgeries, an unmet need based on extensive interviews with clinicians. An interactive patient-specific pre-surgical planning framework and personalized surgical planning suite is developed. This framework is made available for pediatric clinician’s use and its commercialization opportunities are explored through a new start-up company Hemodyn.org. The team participated in two competitive entrepreneurship programs, including 1.5 months at a Silicon Valley accelerator (T-jump) and also received long-term training at major tech transfer offices. Through its well-versed business plan, strong pending patent portfolio, the company is currently negotiating and actively seeking next stage investors. As proposed a clinical trial action plan is developed which will be executed pending investment. The developed service will improve the post-operative quality of life of children with heart defects that require staged cardiovascular surgeries. Socioeconomic impacts span both the patients and their families.
