The overall outcome of the proposed research has been:
- The understanding of the parameters involved in the 3D alumina films for large scale production. At the beginning of the project we had controlled on the templates at lab scale, but now we have large area demonstrators.
- We have also succeeded in the definition of a commercialization roadmap to exploit the alumina three-dimensional films (3DAF) for their use in two main fields: a) producing and selling the templates to the research community, and b) obtaining novel colors in aluminum finishes because of its behavior as a Bragg reflector.
- We have also performed the transference of the 3D nanoporous structure to flexible substrates in large areas, as a new development of this POC project. We are studying now the possibility of filing a patent on this particular result.
- We have also examined the use of alumina template filled with different materials as a way to tailor thermal conductivity of materials.
- An economic analysis of the fabrication cost of three-dimensional porous alumina templates (3DAF) has been carried out.
- Two publications were produced during this project.
- We have also explored the viability of generating a spin-off company and which will be the possible markets and the final conclusion of the POC project is that a spin-off company is going to be created.
