Network topology definition

This deliverable will identify strategies for the physical deployment of the logical architecture defined in D2.2. For this purpose data real deployment scenarios will be considered.

Smart wireless/optical testbed demonstrations via on line and workshop demonstrations

We are building on two already existing very valuable assets – the testbeds at the University of Thessaly (NITOS) and at University of Bristol (TSON). The wireless testbed in Thessaly is a result of the EU-initiative OneLab and the optical testbed in Bristol is a result of the EU Projects CONTENT and OFELIA. In the course of 5G-XHaul, both testbeds will be extended and finally integrated into one testbed exploiting the city of Bristol (UK) experimentation infrastructure.

System Architecture definition

This deliverable will report a list of specifications and a high level description of the 5G-XHaul architecture.

Analysis of state of the art on scalable control plane design and techniques for user mobility awareness. Definition of 5G-XHaul control plane requirements.

This deliverable will provide a thorough analysis of the state of the art available on scalable control plane design, and will identify the basic control plane technologies that will be used in 5G-XHaul. The deliverable will also contain an analysis of existent techniques that can be used to track user mobility patterns with different levels of RAN integration. Finally, the deliverable will identify measurable requirements to be fulfilled by the 5G-XHaul control plane, by identifying the functions to be run in the SDN controller, and their associated delay and bandwidth requirements.

Second Periodic Report

A Technical Periodic Report will be submitted, detailing the work carried out by all the Partners as well as an overview of the objectives. Moreover, a Financial Report will be provided containing an individual financial statement from every partner for the reporting period concerned.

Contribution to ETSI and CEPT on mm-Wave regulatory issues

Contribution and cooperation on aspects related to the regulatory environment for radio equipment and spectrum at the EU level

Wireless backhauling using Sub-6 GHz systems

This deliverable will provide a design of the programmable capabilities made available in Sub6 nodes, and an evaluation of the system wide benefits obtained when an intelligent control plane is able to orchestrate the defined capabilities.

Implementation of web-based resource and communication platform

Implementation of the project website for helping to disseminate the research results and news about the project advancement

Contribution on Optical Communications standardisation

Contributions to WDM standardization (ITU-T G.694.2 and ITU-T G.694.1), TDM-PONs (ITU-T in the G.983, G.984 and G.987), WDM-PON (G.989) as well as Q.2/FSAN - NG-PON2 (in both flavours, TWDM PON and PtP WDM PON)

Requirements Specification and KPIs Document

This report from Task 2.1 and Task 2.2 will provide a first description of potential use cases, and the associated requirements and KPIs. It will also provide a first system concept proposal.

Design and evaluation of scalable control plane, and of mobility aware capabilities and spatio-temporal demand prediction models

This deliverable will provide an architectural design of the 5G-XHaul control plane, including the MT-MAC, the SDN agent, the southbound interface, the 5G-XHaul controller, and the user mobility tracking mechanisms. In addition, this deliverable will contain an evaluation of the designed architecture, and an initial evaluation of the defined demand prediction models.

Synchronization and localization for cooperative communications

This deliverable will provide the means of an accurate frequency, phase and timing synchronization, for all the wireless schemes that play a role in the project.

Evaluation of SDN functionalities over heterogeneous RAN technologies at UTH testbed

This deliverable is a report of the SDN functionalities tested at UTH’s testbed. It involves information of the setup used to test spatial SDN, MT-MAC and other dynamic control functions. It also analyses the results obtained and evaluates them against any relevant KPIs.

Advanced antenna systems for radio access

This deliverable will report the development of an advanced antenna prototype with at least 100 active elements and a CPRI fronthaul interface.

Architecture of optical/wireless backhaul and fronthaul and evaluation

This deliverable will report the optical/wireless backhaul and fronthaul 5G-XHaul architecture together with a detailed evaluation of its performance through modelling and simulations.

Evaluation of wireless-optical converged functionalities at UNIVBRIS testbed

This deliverable reports on the deployment and tests of RAN services over the integrated optical-wireless backhaul/fronthaul solution and the BBU pools.

Report detailed performance conclusions and system design recommendations

This deliverable will use as input the outcome of D4.5 and will draw conclusions on performance achievable and produce report detailing results and recommendations for system design and standardization.

5G-XHaul Technoeconomic Study

A techno-economic study of the 5G-XHaul converged optical and wireless network solution will be carried out. The study will raise the development of a fully parameterized tool for the cost estimation of the adoption of the 5G-XHaul solution in indicative network deployments, and for the comparison with other solutions.

Project Management

Overall administrative and scientific project management, organisation of meetings and events, reporting, budgeting, streamlining of communication, knowledge transfer, progress monitoring, verifiable assessment and reviewing of the project against the deliverables and milestones, consideration of intellectual properties, communication with EU Commission. - Task: 1.1 and 1.2

5G-XHaul algorithms and services Design and Evaluation

This deliverable will provide a definition and evaluation of network management algorithms and services that optimize the performance of the 5G-XHaul network both in the optical and in the wireless domains.

First Periodic Report

Demonstration and Evaluation of the 5G-XHaul Integrated Prototype

This is a report that will describe the details of the integrated prototype architecture and provide a detailed evaluation report of all subsystems under a realistic workload. Dynamic reconfiguration of backhaul/fronthaul for adapting to traffic variations and mobility will be evaluated in this report as well.

Impact report on 5G-XHaul exploitation and dissemination results

This deliverable will report the impact resulting from all 5G-XHaul exploitation and dissemination results

Data Management Plan

This deliverable will evolve during the lifetime of the project in order to present the status of the project's reflections on data management.
