Obiettivo
The SAM A project is concerned with the continued development of methods, tools and databases to support performance assessment of speech input, speech output and interactive voice-based systems.
The establishment of robust protocols for assessment which properly address user and application needs are a primary goal of this project, closely linked with the objective of developing methods of assessment that are relevant to real-world applications where the effects of noise, acoustic environment and transmission distortions are significant factors.
The project will focus on two areas.
- assessment of speech input, output and speaker verification modules
- infrastructure and standardisation, addressing specifications for software, workstations, tools, data assembly and general dissemination.
SAM A takes as its baseline work performed in project 2589, SAM, which has already provided an important basis for European cooperation in assessment activities and resulted in a number of practical tools, test protocols and multilingual databases. The SAM A project aims to build upon this existing framework and to extend its scope by increasing the range of European languages considered to include Spanish, Portuguese and Greek. This will ensure a wider representation of European interests and promote greater international collaboration on assessment.
