High-Speed Architectural Simulation of ARM-based Systems

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - Sniper-ARM (High-Speed Architectural Simulation of ARM-based Systems)

Periodo di rendicontazione: 2016-10-01 al 2018-03-31

Computer system design and integration is a large part of the technology ecosystem. With large EDA companies demonstrating a total of almost $5 billion in annual revenue on sales of tools to designers, and a growing market shown by the increasing number of ARM core licensees, the potential is great for a new product that can significantly shorten time-to-market and help save design and integration companies money.
This Proof-of-Concept project explored a potential solution to speed up the simulation abilities of complex, high-performance out-of-order microprocessors with patent-pending techniques. More specifically, the goal of this project was to extend the Sniper architectural simulator, previously developed at Ghent University, towards ARM-based systems. Sniper is shown to be fast, accurate and low-complexity for x86 multicore systems; and it is widely used in academia, as well as in industry for high-performance computing processor systems. This project enhanced Sniper to support ARM-based systems and explored innovation opportunities in the embedded and mobile markets.
