Obiettivo Faced with the economical development of moulds and tool steels, and the challenge from aluminium industry, steel-makers must understand the metallurgical parameters controlling the shaping of these materials. This research project will attempt to quantify the effects of chemical composition, specific additions, mechanical and physical characteristics on high speed machining and welding. It will also examine the effects of these metallurgical and technological parameters on chemical etching of moulds and tool steels. In particular, the problems of chemical etching on high speed machined and welded surfaces will be studied by a metallurgical investigation.
